Protecting what makes Springfield special.

Fiscal Responsibility

NO to Higher Taxes

Council should be the Stewards of Your Taxpayer Dollars, managing public funds responsibly, fiscally, and ethically. I want to make affordable decisions that benefit residents. Councillors Melinda Warren (Mayoral candidate) & Glen Fuhl (Ward 1 candidate) propose to increase municipal debt from $7 million to possibly $80 million over three years.

Interest costs alone could add hundreds of dollars to your annual property taxes.

Major projects should be affordable and supported by realistic growth projections.

We should:

  • Spend on what you Need.
  • Save for what you Want.

Protecting Our Water

I believe:

  • Instead of a PRO Sio Silica Council
  • We need a NO Sio Silica Council

One of the key issues Springfield is facing is Sio Silica’s 2nd application to mine in our freshwater aquifer.

Residents Agree: We have the RIGHT to clean water, in our wells and water systems. Water is our most valuable resource and must be protected.

Public Participation

Residents must be welcomed and encouraged to participate in Council meetings and town halls. In their term, Councillors Warren & Fuhl eliminated Question Period. Many residents felt discouraged and stopped attending council meetings.

I believe Council should immediately make a resolution that all residents are welcome to attend and actively participate in all council-held events.

Recall and Accountability

There is a growing need in rural municipalities, including Springfield, to hold councils accountable between elections.

Council must act in the best interest of taxpayers. When it fails, there should be consequences. I will work with a new council to hold public hearings and workshops to help introduce a 51% Recall Legislation.

Recall will create a path for stronger accountability.

Our Amazing Rural Community of Springfield

I was part of a recent survey that canvassed over 1000 residents in our Municipality and found:

  • Over 90% of residents want to preserve Springfield’s rural identity where 70% live on acreages, farms and ranches; and 30% live in small towns.
  • Strong opposition to Councillors Warren & Fuhl’s costly plan for small-lot, high-density development in the Oakbank–Dugald corridor. Their $80 million plan has little to no benefit for existing residents.
  • Residents support reasonable growth, and new opportunities for families and businesses, that respects Springfield’s rural character and quality of life.
